Rafael came to Protectors of Animals as an older kitten in September 2024. He was born and grew up in a hoarding situation, and came to us after animal control stepped in. He was not abused, but with too many cats, there was not enough human attention to go around. Some cats learned to do without. Rafael was one of those cats.
Rafael trusted other cats, but he did not want to be handled by people. We soon learned that play was the way to win him over. And gradually Rafael began to give and receive affection.
He was adopted in April and we have received several updates from his adopter. In the most recent update, we were told that Rafael loves to play and hang out with his cat brother. This was not a surprise to us. But we were also told that Rafael isn’t scared anymore. He purrs easily and often. We were told that all Rafael wants now is affection and to be petted. The kitten who learned to do without human contact, has become a cat who craves it.
