Four year old Maeve was found outside. We suspect that she wasn’t treated kindly. She survived when that meant fighting for every scrap she got. Trust? That wasn’t part of her world. Love wasn’t either. But we believe that at some point she knew love. Because we can see that she wants connection. It just scares her. Maeve knows that letting someone get close means letting them get close enough to hurt you.
We posted Maeve for adoption, being completely honest about her. We explained that she needed a home with no other cats and no young kids. We said that she wasn’t a “starter cat” and would do best with someone who had experience with difficult cats. Most importantly, we explained that Maeve needed someone who will help her fight her toughest battle- the battle to forgive humans for everything that had been done to her… someone who is sure that she is worth loving, even when Maeve herself has doubts.
And that someone came in for her. He only wanted to meet Maeve. He wasn’t dissuaded when she smacked him. He adopted her and took her home.
Maeve’s person sent us this photo describing Maeve as a “cute baby.” He said she is safe and happy. She is still feisty, but she asks for pets and sleeps with him at night. He knows that she is worth loving, and Maeve is starting to believe him.
